Katra is located at an altitude of approximately 2500 feet above the sea level. Katra serves as the base camp for preceding the holy yatra towards Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan. The town caters the needs of pilgrims by providing a wide variety of facilities and fulfils their requirements. The facility ranges from free/rented accommodations to food and refreshments, railway reservation counters, communication services, banking, medical and police station. Pilgrims can also purchase souvenirs, prashad, books and other religious items related to Mata Vaishno from the various Souvenir Shop maintained by Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
